CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) - The new program provides a free option for Chippewa County residents looking to get rid of TVs, appliances and electronics.
According to a news release from Chippewa County Land Conservation and Forest Management, it has contracted with First Choice Computer Recycling to provide free recycling of TVs, non-freon appliances and electronics for Chippewa County residents.
Recycling is available at First Choice at 525 Park Ridge Court in Eau Claire during their business hours of Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. All TVs, non-freon appliances and electronics are free for Chippewa County residents to recycle. The only charges are for freon appliances, batteries and flourescent bulbs.
Chippewa County will no longer accept appliances and electronics at Clean Sweep events at the Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds.
Wisconsin electronics recycling law bans do not allow electronics to be disposed of in landfills or incinerators.
Many electronics contain harmful materials that, when improperly disposed of, can pollute soil and water and have harmful effects on health. Improperly handled electronic waste may also pose a risk to workers.
The following TVs, appliances and electronics must be recycled:
- TVs
- Computers (including desktops, laptops, tablets)
- Printers
- Monitors
- Keyboards, mice, speakers, flash drives
- E-readers
- DVD players, VCRs and video players (DVRs)
- Fax machines
- Cellphones
- Major appliances, including air conditioners, washers, dryers, dishwashers, refigerators, freezers, stoves, ovens, dehumidifiers, furnaces, boilers, water heaters and microwaves
