Community members can bring confidential documents for free shredding. However, there will be a small recycling fee for certain electronic items. Charges apply to specific electronics, including older CRT televisions, projection TVs, flat-screen TVs, printers, copiers, and appliances containing Freon. Payments can be made by cash or check, according to city officials.

According to organizers, paper documents collected during the event will be shredded at a secure off-site location rather than at City Hall. The initiative is supported by funding from the St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District.

City officials encourage residents of Byrnes Mill and nearby communities to take advantage of the event to securely recycle documents and properly dispose of outdated electronic devices.

Mayor Rob Kiczenski said the event ia aimed at helping residents protect themselves from identity theft by providing a secure way to dispose of sensitive records such as tax returns and bank statements.
