Accomack County Collects Nearly 66 Tons at Farm Tire Recycling Event

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Accomack County farmers turned out in large numbers on February 3, 2026, for a Farm Tire Recycling Event at the Southern Landfill in Melfa, resulting in the collection of nearly 66 tons of used agricultural tires. The strong participation underscored the region’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and responsible waste management practices.

Hosted at the county landfill with support from Accomack County Public Works, the event allowed local producers to recycle up to three tons of tractor, heavy truck, and farm implement tires at no cost. The initiative was sponsored by the Eastern Shore Soil and Water Conservation District in partnership with the Accomack County Farm Bureau.

Organizers said the volume of tires collected exceeded expectations, removing bulky and potentially hazardous materials from farms and open land. Discarded agricultural tires can pose environmental and safety risks if improperly stored, making proper disposal critical.

Event leaders thanked participating farmers, volunteers, and partner agencies for their collaboration. Officials described the recycling drive as a successful example of coordinated local action to advance conservation goals and protect natural resources across Accomack County.
