SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Placer County has launched a new pilot program offering residents a free and convenient way to recycle large quantities of cardboard in Kings Beach during the summer. The initiative aims to improve waste management, by reducing landfill waste volumes.
The bulk cardboard recycling service officially began on July 7 under the Eastern Placer Responsible Refuse program. County officials said it will make a decision on making the the service a long-term offering, after analyzing the community participation in the pilot program.

The collection bin is located on county-owned property at the corner of North Lake Boulevard and Fox Street in Kings Beach. It is accessible seven days a week, except for a short period on Fridays when it is emptied and serviced by Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal.
Residents are encouraged to recycle only clean, flattened cardboard. Boxes must be broken down and free of food residue, liquids, or other contaminants before being placed in the container.
Placer County has partnered with Clean Tahoe to oversee the location and help keep it clean throughout the pilot period.
The county noted that recycling cardboard not only reduces landfill waste but also frees up household trash bin space while supporting broader environmental sustainability goals.
