SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Residents of Mount Vernon will have an opportunity to dispose of unwanted electronics and electrical equipment responsibly during a citywide e-recycling event scheduled for October 24. The City of Mount Vernon has partnered with J&C E-Recycling to conduct the event.
The collection will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Department, 1201 Casey Ave. The program is designed to provide households with a convenient outlet for electronics that might otherwise enter the municipal waste stream.
Accepted materials will include computers and components, laptops, cell phones, printers, hard drives, keyboards, monitors and televisions. There will be a limit of two-TV per household. Residents may also bring batteries, power supplies, modems, DVD and VHS players, electric motors, microwaves and various small appliances.

Larger household and outdoor equipment will also be accepted. Residents may bring items, including refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, lawnmowers, weed eaters, electric treadmills and stationary exercise bikes.
However, the event will not accept certain items such as light bulbs, propane tanks, smoke or carbon dioxide detectors, or tires.
Mount Vernon holds the recycling program periodically, depending on available funding. The previous collection took place May 30.
For queries on whether any item qualifies for recycling, residents are requested to contact J&C E-Recycling at (618) 233-5009 before attending.
