Fort Worth Receives Major EPA Investment for Water Reuse and Recycling Initiatives

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced more than $351 million in funding for Fort Worth, Texas, including a $347 million loan through the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program and a $4.8 million grant from the Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) program.

Fort Worth plans to use the WIFIA loan to upgrade its wastewater collection and treatment systems, including a newly designed Mary’s Creek Water Reclamation Facility. The facility will support population growth while treating wastewater for industrial and irrigation reuse.

The SWIFR grant will fund the city’s Reuse Program and Recycling Enhancement Project, enabling the collection of appliances, electronics, furniture, and building materials at designated drop-off locations for reuse and recycling.

“Funding from EPA can help Fort Worth increase capacity to meet growing infrastructure and materials management needs,” said Regional Administrator Scott Mason. Mayor Mattie Parker highlighted the low-interest WIFIA loan and the solid waste grant as critical investments to expand services, keep costs affordable, and support sustainable growth.

These combined investments are expected to improve wastewater treatment, promote recycling, and reinforce Fort Worth’s commitment to smart, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible city services.
