SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Interstate Waste Services, Inc. (IWS) has announced the acquisition of Filco Carting Corp., one of New York City’s oldest and most respected waste management companies. The acquisition enhances the Commercial Waste Zone (CWZ) readiness of Action Environmental Services, IWS’s BIC-licensed, CWZ-awarded subsidiary, and strengthens IWS’s footprint across the tri-state region.
Founded in 1910 with a single horse and cart on 38th Street, Filco Carting is now in its fourth generation of family ownership. In 2024, the company expanded its residential waste collection contracts and relocated its headquarters to Closter, New Jersey, further extending its service area.

Mike DiBella, CEO of IWS, said, “Filco’s legacy as a family-owned business with a stellar reputation makes them a perfect fit for IWS. Together, we continue our growth trajectory while upholding values of reliability and community impact.”
Filco CEO Domenic Monopoli added, “Joining IWS is an exciting milestone. Our commitment to service aligns perfectly, and we look forward to building on our century-long legacy.”
Under the acquisition, IWS will integrate Filco’s commercial and residential services, municipal contracts, nearly 40 fleet vehicles, and over 100 employees into its operations. Josh Haraf, VP of NYC Market, highlighted that Filco’s expertise will strengthen IWS’s service delivery as CWZ implementation continues.
