Odessa Reopened ‘Time Machine’ Recycling Centre

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Following a brief halt in operations, the City of Odessa’s ‘Time Machine’ Recycling Center, located on 42nd Street, has now reopened to the general public.

The recycling center went through a series of renovations including a new six-foot fence to prevent any items from flying into the road and other general maintenance works on the building and offices. It has switched to a centralized system, with customers provided with a one-way path to drop off their recyclables.

The Center now has four new containers for both plastic and cardboard materials, in addition to two additional containers for newspaper and mixed paper.

The new working hours for the Center are 8AM to 5PM on weekdays and 8AM to Noon on Saturday.

Prior to the renovation, the workers had to empty 373 containers across the city. Nearly 80% of the containers used to be contaminated with trash, thus ending up in landfills. Several city staff have been urging for a centralized collection system, which according to them would streamline the entire waste collection process. The new changes are projected to save the city approximately $400,000.  Moreover, the centralized location is expected to make the entire recycling process easier.
