SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): New Hanover County will offer multiple opportunities to residents to safely dispose of confidential documents through a series of free mobile paper-shredding events in the month of June this year.
The events will be held in partnership with the New Hanover County Senior Center and Recycling and Solid Waste Department. The program is funded by the North Carolina Senior Medicare Patrol and the North Carolina Department of Insurance’s SHIIP Division.
Mobile shred truck will offer convenient drive-thru service at several locations across the county. Scheduled stops include Kure Beach Town Hall on June 6, Ogden Park on June 8 and June 15, Carolina Beach’s Mike Chappell Park on June 12 and June 19, and the MLK Center in Wilmington on June 13.
In order to ensure broad community participation, residents will be limited to two boxes of documents per vehicle.
According to Senior Resource Center Director Amber Smith, the expanded shredding events provide residents with additional opportunities to safely dispose of sensitive paperwork and reduce the risk of personal information being accessed or used fraudulently.
The paper shred events provide a secure and accessible way to destroy confidential documents, effectively preventing identity theft and fraud. By destroying sensitive data, these events protect consumers and help the environment through large-scale recycling, while also building community trust and goodwill.
