MONTREAL (RecyclingMonster): Wright County, Minnesota, is set to open its new $4.5 million Household Hazardous Waste Facility on September 15, replacing an older facility that had been adapted over time for recycling and household hazardous waste collection.

The new facility is located at 505 County Road 37 NE, Buffalo, Minnesota. The previous site infrastructure dated to the 1990s and was originally developed for solid-waste composting before portions of the property were converted to recycling and household hazardous waste operations.

New Facility Adds Purpose-Built Space for Waste Collection

The new site includes a 9,966-square-foot enclosed building. RecyclingMonster's source also reports a 5,250-square-foot covered drive-through area designed to support vehicle movement, unloading and material handling.

The facility will operate Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as the second and third Saturdays of each month from 8 a.m. to noon.

Facility Accepts Hazardous Waste, Electronics and Recyclables

The center will accept household hazardous waste along with appliances, electronics, tires, used cooking oil and grease, yard waste, brush and curbside recyclables.

Additional drop-off services include plastic bags, selected rigid plastics, clean white expanded polystyrene and secure document shredding.

Some materials carry disposal fees, including certain electronics, appliances and tires.

Wright County Residency Must Be Verified

Visitors must check in with facility staff and provide proof of Wright County residency.

Household hazardous waste such as paints, chemicals, cleaning products and used oil should be placed in visible boxes, tubs or similar containers. The county instructs residents not to transport these materials in large garbage bags because staff must be able to see and identify the contents.

The new facility replaces the temporary Maple Lake operation used while construction was underway at the County Road 37 site.
