MONTREAL (RecyclingMonster): Casella Waste Systems has reached an agreement to acquire Waste Reduction, Recycling & Transfer (WRRT), a waste-services company based in Hanover Township. The transaction would expand Casella's footprint in Pennsylvania.
WRRT has served communities in Northeastern Pennsylvania for more than three decades. Its operations include residential and commercial waste collection, dumpster rentals, industrial disposal and recycling.
WRRT Operates Collection and Transfer-Station Assets
The company operates a fleet of about nine trucks and runs a transfer station in Hanover Township.
WRRT has proposed increasing the station's permitted capacity from 500 tons to 1,500 tons per day. The requested permit change is currently under review by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
Casella Continues Pennsylvania Expansion
Casella has been growing its Pennsylvania operations. The company has made several purchases in the state, including Whitetail Disposal, LMR, Cougle's Recycling, Tiger Trash and X/S Waste Transport.
The company is also developing additional infrastructure in the region, including a planned recycling facility near Allentown.
WRRT Leadership to Remain With the Business
WRRT President and CEO Joseph Valenti will remain with the business after the transaction. He said customers will continue to receive the same service.
Valenti added that the transaction will give WRRT access to Casella's technology, resources and environmental expertise.
