MONTREAL (RecyclingMonster): Juniata County residents will have another opportunity to dispose of old tires responsibly during the annual tire recycling drive on September 19, 2026, hosted by the Juniata County Conservation District.

The collection will run from 9 to 11 a.m., or earlier if the trucks reach capacity, at the Juniata County Fairgrounds, 308 W. Eighth St. in Port Royal. The program is available only to Juniata County residents, and advance registration is not required.

Tire Disposal Fees and Payment Details

Disposal charges for 2026 include $4 for car or pickup tires, $8 for tractor-trailer tires, $2 for motorcycle and golf cart tires, and $1 for bicycle tires. Oversized tires up to 48 inches tall and 14 inches wide cost $25. Cash and checks will be accepted.

Local volunteers, including FFA members, will be available to help with traffic control and loading.

Previous Tire Collections and Recycling Uses

The 2025 program collected 303 tires, including tires from passenger vehicles, trucks, tractors, semis and golf carts. The total was significantly lower than the 734 tires collected in 2024.

According to the event organizers, proper tire disposal is essential because abandoned tires can hold rainwater, creating mosquito breeding sites. Large tire piles may also increase fire risks.

The recycled tires will be processed for use in playground flooring, sports surfaces, landscaping materials and road-related applications, the organizers said.
