ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio: The Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District will hold its upcoming Recycling Days event on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trimble Elementary School in Jacksonville.

Accepted Materials and Recycling Fees

The event will collect appliances, e-waste, cell phones, household goods, clothing, scrap metal, mattresses, books and batteries.

The Solid Waste District will charge $20 to $40 per TV for television recycling. Fluorescent tubes and compact bulbs will cost 50 cents each. Only cash or checks will be accepted.

Organizers said trash trucks will also be available for items that cannot be reused or recycled.

The event will not accept household hazardous waste or appliances containing Freon, and shredding will not be offered.

Scrap Tire Fees, Limits and Eligibility

Scrap tires may be dropped off for 50 cents per tire or $4 per tire with a rim. There is a limit of 10 tires per vehicle.

The 50-cent tire program is made possible through a Recycle Ohio grant. Tires from tire retailers or shops are not eligible for drop-off. The program is limited to private residents, and tires will be accepted only until the trailer is full.
