Randolph County Selects Waga Energy for North Carolina RNG Project

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster):Randolph County has selected Waga Energy to build a renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at the Great Oak Landfill in Randleman, North Carolina. The proposed facility will play a key role in expanding clean energy production and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the terms of the 20-year agreement reached between the parties, Waga Energy will fully finance, build, own, and operate the new RNG plant. The project will use the company's patented WAGABOX® technology to capture landfill gas and convert it into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas, which will be distributed through the local natural gas network.

The facility will have an initial processing capacity of 3,000 standard cubic feet per minute and is expected to generate nearly 610,000 MMBtu of renewable natural gas per year. It will prevent around 47,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions each year, by replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy.

In addition, Waga Energy plans to capture more methane by improving the landfill's gas collection infrastructure, thereby supporting North Carolina's transition toward cleaner energy sources.

County officials noted that the new project will deliver long-term economic and environmental benefits.
