SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Republic Services announced that it has obtained necessary regulatory clearance to acquire selected assets from TD*X Associates, a North Carolina-based company specializing in thermal desorption technology. The early termination of antitrust review by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is expected to speed up the transaction.
As part of the deal, Republic Services will acquire a TD*X-owned thermal desorption facility located in Robstown, Texas, which is co-located with the company’s hazardous waste operation in the region.
The acquisition is expected to strengthen Republic Services’ environmental services portfolio, in addition to expanding its presence in Robstown. Furthermore, it will expand the company’s hazardous waste portfolio, which currently comprises of 24 treatment, storage and disposal facilities, 15 deep injection wells, nine industrial wastewater treatment plants, and six active hazardous waste landfills.
TD*X is an industry leader known for developing patented technologies used to process hazardous wastes contaminated with mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and other toxic substances.
