Wood County Solid Waste Authority Collects Over 1,000 Tires During Community Cleanup Event

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Wood County Solid Waste Authority (WCSWA) stated that it collected more than 1,000 tires within the first two hours of a community cleanup event held last Saturday. The strong public participation underscores the success of its efforts to promote responsible waste disposal and reduce illegal dumping. According to WCSWA Director Sarah Robinson, the event reported significant turnout with approximately 100 vehicles passing through the collection site within the first two hours.

The free collection event was organized to help Wood County residents dispose of bulky and difficult-to-manage items that are often costly to recycle or discard. Residents with a valid West Virginia ID were allowed to drop off up to 10 off-rim tires at no charge. The event also accepted appliances without Freon, scrap metal, and all types of paint.

The tire collection program was supported through the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’s Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan (REAP) program.

The tires collected durin gthe event were transported to a processing facility in Weston through the REAP program. Waste Management will be responsible for proper treatment and disposal of paint materials, while scrap metals will be handled by RNJ Recycling.
