SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Lake Charles residents can help beautify city parks this year by recycling their Christmas trees at a special drive-thru event. The city, in partnership with Team Green-Keep Greater Lake Charles Beautiful, will host its third annual Christmas tree recycling from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Nelson Ball Field/Alma Lane Recycling Station.
Community members are asked to bring live trees free of decorations, lights, and tinsel. Trees collected will be recycled into mulch for future city beautification projects. Lake Charles Director of Community Services Mike Castille emphasized the program’s positive impact, saying it allows residents to “step into the new year immediately, giving back to the community.”

Since joining the city in 2022, Castille has worked to expand Team Green initiatives, a collaboration of city employees and industry leaders focused on sustainability and park enhancement. The tree recycling program highlights the group’s mission of reducing waste and promoting reuse, while supporting ongoing park improvement efforts.
The program has grown steadily, with approximately 40 trees donated in its first year and 100 in its second. Residents who donate a tree on Saturday will receive a gift from Landscape Management, while supplies last.
