SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): ZooTampa at Lowry Park is set to host a massive e-waste recycling drive this weekend, inviting the local community to take part in an important environmental sustainability initiative. The event will take place on Saturday, October 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1101 W Sligh Ave, Tampa, as part of the World Okapi Day celebration.
The eco-friendly event aims to provide residents with a safe and responsible way to dispose of unwanted electronics, helping protect the planet and its wildlife from the harmful effects of improper e-waste disposal.
ZooTampa has joined hands with Urban E Recycling Inc., a certified local e-waste recycler, to ensure that all collected items are processed responsibly. The electronic waste will be handled at the recycler’s facility using environmentally sound methods—ensuring that no materials end up in landfills.
Community members can drop off a wide variety of electronics, including
Computers, laptops, and tablets
Mobile phones and video game consoles
Hard drives, iPads, and flat-screen monitors
Printers, copiers, and other small electronics
Batteries (excluding household batteries)
However, the drive will not accept large household appliances, televisions, CRT monitors, household batteries, paint, varnish, or any chemical products.
To address data security concerns, a data-shredding service will be available on-site to destroy any personal or confidential information stored on electronic devices. Still, participants are encouraged to remove SIM cards and perform a factory reset or hard drive format prior to bringing their devices for recycling.
