City of Ames, Iowa Moves Forward with Building a New Solid Waste Disposal and Recycling Facility

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The development of a new solid waste disposal and recycling plant in the City of Ames, Iowa, has advanced one step. By signing a $1.2 million contract, it designated Story Construction as its advisor for the facility's construction.

The agreement states that Story Construction will help the city estimate and manage costs during the design stage. A full-time corporate representative will be on-site to oversee and manage construction activities. It will be in charge of jobsite coordination and general logistics.

The existing facility, which is more than 50 years old, will be replaced with a new $16.7 million Resource Recovery and Recycling campus that will be situated along Freel Drive, just south of Lincoln Way. At the moment, Ames delivers the remaining solid garbage to the rapidly filling Boone County Landfill. Over 58,000 tons of garbage are anticipated to be received by the campus each year; this amount could rise sharply in the future as the city's population grows.

By July 2027, the new facility should be up and running. It will primarily concentrate on recycling while handling a wide range of products, such as yard waste, recyclables, and solid waste.
