SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): By mid-September, the Northeast Michigan Materials Management Authority (NMMMA) intends to start picking up recyclables in Iosco County. This is a component of the Authority's continuous effort to collaborate with Northeast Michigan communities.
Iosco County and the authority are said to have inked an agreement. The agreement states that recyclables will be picked up in Oscoda, Tawas, and Whittemore. The partnership is expected to expand NMMMA’s reach beyond Alpena County. Additionally, it will assist the authority in greatly enhancing the region's access to recycling services.

"The current Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is at its peak," said Bailey Barr, executive director of NMMMA. The necessity for a new facility is highlighted by the extension of services to Iosco County. The activities should become more efficient with the new facility. Curbside pick-up is one of NMMMA's future service expansion goals.
By the spring of 2026, the operations will be relocated to the new location. While the building bids are still pending, all of the equipment bids have been completed. It is anticipated that the MRF's construction would begin either late this autumn or early this winter.
