ADEQ Comment Period for Aluminum Recycling Plant Comes to an End

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The public comment period by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) for a proposed air quality permit for an aluminum recycling plant by Aluminum Dynamics, Inc. in Benson, Arizona has come to an end. Comments were accepted until midnight on August 21, 2025.

Situated on a 200-acre plot of land, the projected 174,000-square-foot plant will be able to handle up to 300,000 tonnes of aluminum scrap annually. The facility would create recycled aluminum ingots for use in a variety of sectors, including as construction, automotive, and beverage packaging. The plant will deliver completed goods to customers using rail infrastructure.

In addition to dangerous air pollutants, the plant may release over 40 tonnes of particle matter, which alarmed the locals. Additionally, it is expected that the plant will use an excessive amount of water. The inhabitants mentioned the plant's close proximity to residences and a nursing home in addition to health and noise issues.

Officials from the corporation did clarify, though, that recovering aluminum from scrap will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 95%. Additionally, recycling uses a lot less water than the conventional smelting process. They added that such facilities will produce less noise and air pollution.

The plant now awaits the outcome of the regulatory review.
