MONTREAL (RecyclingMonster): The City of Richmond, Virginia, will hold a recycling and waste-disposal event on Saturday, September 12, giving city residents an opportunity to drop off documents, electronics and selected household hazardous waste.
The event, organized by Richmond's Department of Public Works, Clean City Commission and Department of Public Utilities, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1710 Robin Hood Road.
Participation is limited to City of Richmond residents, and proof of residency is required. Business and commercial items will not be accepted.
Paper Shredding Limited to Five Boxes
Residents can bring up to five boxes of paper documents for secure shredding. Binders, staples and paper clips must be removed before drop-off.
Electronics Accepted, With Fees on Certain Items
The event will accept a range of electronic items, including computers, cables, keyboards, speakers, phones, televisions, monitors, printers, VCRs, camcorders and stereos.
Various fees apply to certain electronics.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Includes Oil-Based Paint
Household hazardous waste accepted at the event includes oil-based paints, insect sprays, pesticides, rodent-control products and herbicides such as RoundUp and Weed B Gon.
Latex and water-based paints will not be accepted.
City officials said the event is intended to keep recyclable and hazardous materials out of landfills and waterways while giving residents a more convenient way to manage unwanted materials.
