SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): South Plainfield residents will have an opportunity to destroy unwanted documents containing sensitive information during a free community paper shredding event on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The event is part of South Plainfield’s continuing efforts to provide convenient recycling and waste-reduction programs for local households.
The program will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the South Plainfield Recycling Center, 882 Kenneth Avenue. The event will be open to households within the borough. Please note that commercial and business documents will not be accepted.
Each vehicle can bring up to five file boxes or 100 pounds of paper. Residents are advised to use containers that can be handled easily. Paper should not be placed in plastic bags. Staples and paper clips need not be removed from the documents.
Several materials, including newspapers, magazines, hardcover books, junk mail, photographs, X-rays, CDs, already-shredded paper and ordinary trash will not be accepted. Batteries and metal items are also prohibited. Loads containing unacceptable materials may be turned away. Residents are advised to separate eligible paper from restricted materials before arriving to avoid delays or rejection at the site.
Mayor Matt Anesh said the event gives residents a simple way to protect private information while helping the community improve its recycling practices.
