Oregon Recycling Program Expands Access One Year After Launch

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Oregon’s new recycling program has completed its first year with wider collection access, new equipment and major investments in local recycling infrastructure. The RecycleOn Oregon program, which began in July 2025, has resulted in collection of nearly 295,000 tons of waste by recycling facilities across the state.

The system was created under an Oregon law that requires companies selling paper and packaging products to account for a portion of the recycling costs. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality had chosen Circular Action Alliance (CAA) Oregon to manage the program.

During its first year, the initiative expanded curbside recycling into communities that previously lacked the service. It also established 34 RecycleOn Centers for materials not accepted in regular household carts.

The funding support received by the program helped in purchases of more than 36,000 recycling carts, 11 collection trucks and also resulted in improvements amounting to nearly $30 million at sorting facilities. The program has deliovered roughly 530 million pounds of recyclable material to sorting centers since its inception.

The program has launched or expanded services to Pendleton, Baker City, Boardman, Hermiston, Roseburg, Umatilla and The Dalles. More locations are expected to receive services in the coming months.

CAA Oregon says the long-term goal is to make recycling easier and more consistent across the state.
