SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Franklin County Solid Waste Management District has partnered with the towns of Leverett, Montague, Northfield, and Warwick to host special Styrofoam recycling collection events on three Saturdays this April. The free events will take place on April 11, 18, and 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at local transfer stations in each town.
The initiative is open exclusively to residents of the four participating communities and focuses on collecting clean, dry expanded polystyrene foam, commonly known as Styrofoam. Accepted materials include white block packing foam and coolers, while food containers, dirty items, packing peanuts, and other foam types will be rejected.

Volunteers will be present to inspect materials and ensure compliance with recycling guidelines. Residents are required to remove tape, labels, and other attachments before drop-off.
Now in its fifth year, the program has successfully diverted approximately 170 cubic yards of foam from landfills. Collected materials are processed by Gold Circuit E-Cycling, where they are densified and repurposed into products such as picture frames and building insulation. The initiative continues to promote sustainable waste management across the region.
