Calhoun County to Host Free Hazardous Waste, Scrap Collection Events

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Calhoun County will host two free spring collection events, giving residents an opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous waste, appliances, electronics, and scrap metal. The first event is set for April 27 at Bailey Park in Battle Creek, while the second will take place May 18 at Ketchum Field in Albion. Both events will run from noon to 5:30 p.m. and are open to all county residents.

Officials said a broad range of materials will be accepted, including oil-based paints, fuels, solvents, pesticides, household chemicals, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and medical sharps. Appliances and scrap metal items such as stoves, washers, dryers, metal furniture, and bike frames will also be collected, although items containing refrigerants will not be accepted. Residents may also dispose of electronics, including computers, televisions, mobile devices, and small household gadgets.

To ensure a smooth and safe process, participants must remain in their vehicles while staff and volunteers unload materials. Residents are encouraged to pack items securely, separate paint containers, and label any materials not in original packaging.

County officials emphasized that the initiative supports responsible waste disposal and promotes environmental safety across the community.
