SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Residents of Franklin and nearby communities are encouraged to take part in the Annual Electronics Recycling Event hosted by St. Mary Parish on Saturday, April 11, from 9 AM to 2 PM. The event will be held rain or shine at the parking lot behind the old school, located at 201 Main Street.
The recycling drive aims to promote environmentally responsible disposal of electronic waste, including devices with plugs or batteries, along with reusable bicycles.
A structured fee system applies based on item category. Smaller electronics such as laptops, speakers, and gaming consoles are charged $5 each, while small appliances like vacuums and coffee makers cost $10. Mid-sized items, including microwaves and air conditioning units, are priced between $20 and $25. Larger appliances, televisions, and heavy equipment may cost between $30 and $40.
Several items—including cell phones, chargers, batteries, tablets, and bicycles—will be accepted free of charge, with voluntary donations welcomed.
For convenience and safety, attendees must remain in their vehicles while trained staff unload items. Organizers also ensure secure data destruction for hard drives, with optional removal services available onsite. Cash is preferred, while checks are accepted for payments exceeding $30.
