Commerce City Launches Adams County’s First Electric Recycling and Waste Truck Fleet

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Commerce City has introduced a new fleet of electric recycling and waste collection trucks, becoming the first municipality in Adams County to deploy fully electric refuse vehicles. The announcement was made during a Tuesday press conference, where city leaders outlined how the initiative supports cleaner operations and safer streets.

The new trucks feature large, panoramic windshields that enhance driver visibility, helping operators better navigate tight neighborhoods and high-traffic routes. Powered entirely by electricity, the vehicles produce zero tailpipe emissions, making them a more environmentally sustainable alternative to conventional diesel trucks.

Advanced safety technology is a key component of the fleet. Each vehicle is equipped with blind spot monitoring, 360-degree camera systems, and collision prevention technology, reducing risks for drivers, pedestrians, and other motorists. Officials described the trucks as mobile offices, allowing drivers to manage routes, data, and daily tasks efficiently while on collection rounds.

The electric fleet is already operating across Adams County. Republic Services said it had more than 180 electric vehicles nationwide by the end of 2025, including 14 electric trucks in Colorado. The initiative reinforces commitments to cleaner infrastructure and municipal services.
