Covington Relaunches Annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program for Residents

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Covington has reopened its annual natural Christmas tree recycling program, offering residents an eco-friendly way to dispose of holiday trees while supporting local sustainability goals. The initiative focuses on diverting organic waste from landfills and repurposing natural trees into free mulch for Covington households.

The program is being coordinated by the City’s Public Works Solid Waste and Recycling Division in partnership with the Urban Forestry Division, Keep Covington Beautiful, and waste hauler Rumpke. Residents can take advantage of several convenient drop-off locations across the city between December 26 and January 19. In addition, curbside pickup services will be available through Rumpke from January 5 through January 19, provided requests are scheduled at least 48 hours in advance.

All collected trees will be chipped and processed into mulch, which will be distributed to residents at no cost. City officials emphasized that the effort not only reduces landfill volume but also supports urban landscaping and soil health.

To ensure efficient recycling, only natural trees are accepted. All decorations, lights, and tinsel must be removed, trees should not be bagged, and any tree taller than six feet must be cut in half.
