SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Richland County residents will have the chance to safely dispose of unwanted household items this weekend during the County’s America Recycles Day event.
The free drop-off will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, from 8 a.m. to noon at Columbia Place Mall, located at 7201 Two Notch Road. The event is open to County residents only, and identification is required. Items from commercial businesses will not be accepted.
Residents can bring household hazardous waste—including paint, sealers, solvents, household cleaners, pool chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, acids, bases, and propane tanks—as well as paper for shredding, with a limit of five boxes or bags per household.
While electronic waste will not be taken at Saturday’s event, the County reminds residents that items such as televisions, computers, printers, cellphones, and tablets can be recycled year-round at the C&D Landfill and Lower Richland drop-off centers. Information on those sites is available on the County website and Solid Waste app.
America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day celebrating recycling, organized by Keep America Beautiful. Last year, its nationwide affiliates collected more than 32 million pounds of recyclable materials, reducing landfill use and conserving resources.
