Hamilton County Announced Special Electronics Recycling Events

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Hamilton County announced a series of free electronics recycling events for its residents. The events are offered by Great Parks in partnership with Cohen Recycling. The sites across the county will accept old or unwanted electronic items from residents free of cost.

The drop-off events are scheduled to be held on three Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Miami Whitewater Forest Harbor on Sept. 6, Woodland Mound’s Breezy Point on Oct. 11 and Winton Woods’ Harper Meadows on Nov. 1. It must be noted that similar events held last year had collected approximately 30 tons of electronic waste from around 1,000 cars.

Computers, cellphones, DVD players, video game systems, phones, remote controllers, batteries, laptops, tablets, fax machines, keyboards, and microwaves are among the devices that are allowed to be used during the event. In the meanwhile, cathode ray tube devices, such box TVs, will be allowed for a $10 fee each.

"The events will help keep tonnes of recyclable electronics out of our landfills and prevent hazardous e-waste from reaching soil and water," said Stephanie Bacher, Great Parks' sustainability coordinator.

Later this year, Great Parks and Cohen Recycling will work together for the yearly Holiday Lights Recycling Event. Over eight tonnes of holiday lights were gathered for the event last year.
