City of Madison Heights Expands Curbside Recycling Collection

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Madison Heights has rolled out major expansion to its curbside recycling collection service.

With support from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), it has provided more than 20,000 free curbside garbage and recycling carts as part of the expansion. When compared to present levels of approximately 1,000 tons annually, the new recycling carts will help increase the recycled volumes to an all-time high of nearly 1,500 tons, which is a 50% increase.

The carts, which will cost around $1.1 million, are being bought from Cascade Cart Solutions, a company based in Grand Rapids. The cart purchases are financed by a grant from The Recycling Partnership in addition to EGLE's assistance.

This means that everyone of the city's 10,300+ households will get a 64-gallon recycling cart and a 96-gallon trash cart. Delivery of the carts is anticipated by September 1, 2025. According to a city news release, Madison Heights will implement cart-only collection beginning of October 6, 2025.

One of the many benefits of the new collection method is that it makes recycling simpler and more convenient for locals, particularly senior persons. Additionally, it promises less rodent activity and a better curbside appearance.

Items such as cardboard, newspapers, junk mail, mixed paper, glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans, and plastic bottles and containers will all be accepted by the carts.
